Welcome to Crathie Primary School's Website

Our School

Crathie Primary School is a small, non-denominational school serving a rural community made up from Abergeldie, Balmoral and Invercauld Estates and the village of Crathie. Set in the heart of Royal Deeside, we are surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery in Scotland.

The buildings are traditional style and the original building was built during Queen Victoria's reign and opened in 1873.   There are three classrooms and a small servery where lunches, which are delivered each day from Ballater Primary School, are eaten.   Outside there is a large playground with grass, tarred and woodland areas.  There is also a playing field adjacent to the school and the local Church Hall is used for PE and some school functions.

At present there are 15 pupils enrolled in a composite class of Primary 1 to Primary 7 pupils.

Our Aims

In Crathie we aim to provide a happy, safe and secure environment. We aim to equip pupils with foundation skills, attitudes and expectations necessary to prosper in a changing society and to encourage creativity and ambition through lifelong learning. We do this by raising standards of achievement at all levels of learning through a rigorous system of quality assurance.

  • Curriculum: Through consultation with parents, pupils and staff, we will provide and deliver a broad, balanced curriculum ensuring integration, continuity and progression in line with the National 5-14 Guidelines.
  • Attainment: We aim to ensure pupils maximize their levels of attainmemt through a system of baseline assessment, early intervention, target setting and pupil tracking.
  • Learning and Teaching: We aim to provide a learning environment which stimulates and motivates pupils. This will encourage active involvement and independant thinking with due regard to differing abilities and aptitudes pupils may have. We will ensure that parents and pupils are informed of progress and that views of parents and pupils are taken into account.
  • Support for Pupils: We aim to provide a caring, supportive environment in which the educational, emotional, physical and social needs of individual children are met. We recognise the need to maximise opportunities for all children, regardless of physical, emotional or social disabilities and linking with other agencies as appropriate.
  • Ethos: We aim to encourage a sense of identity and pride in the school and promote an ethos of achievement through high expectations and use of praise. We will encourage pupils to be courteous and well mannered, with the expectation of high standards of behaviour and discipline. Pupils will be involved in decision making about the life and work of the school, encouraging an atmosphere of equality and fairness for all. Positive steps will be taken to enable parents to participate effectively in their children's care and education.
  • Resources: We aim to ensure a safe, pleasant and stimulating environment for pupils and staff which encourages an ethos of achievement. Finacnial budgets will be effectivly managed to maximise the potential for staff, facilites and equipment.
  • Management, leadership and quality assurance: We aim to produce and implement a development plan and process for self-evaluation and monitoring. These will ensure the effectiveness and deployment of staff and provide a vision for the school taking into account the views and needs of the school stakeholders.

The aims of Crathie School were developed in response to the National Priorities set by the Scottish Executive, Standards in Scotland 2002.
